Arrivals and Changes
It had been awhile since I had seen Jethro Gibbs and his team. The last time the seven of us had seen each other was a year ago at my sister’s memorial service. That day had been hard on all of us, but it was harder for Jethro, Ziva and I. Jethro had lost the one woman that he had truly loved and cared for since his first wife, Shannon died eighteen years ago. Ziva like me; had lost her best friend, she also lost a person who was like a mother to her. As for me, I lost my sister.
Recently I had learned that Jenny was alive. Jenny and I had been living in a two bedroom apartment for the last six months since Jethro had burn down our childhood home with Franks. Today, Jenny and I were going to NCIS to mend the hole that was left when she died and to have her reclaim the Director’s office. We were meeting the Secretary of the Navy to get the orders that relieved Director Vance from his position and reinstated Jenny. When Jenny and I had arrived at NCIS; I could notice that my sister wasn’t herself.
“I can’t believe you are wearing that today.” Jenny said commenting on my sun dress.
“What’s wrong with my dress?” I asked as we walked past the squad room where Jethro, Ziva, Tony and McGee were.
“You shouldn’t have worn that on your first day as an NCIS Agent, especially when you are going to be on Jethro’s team.” Jenny answered.
“I’ll be fine Jen.”
As my sister and I climbed the stairs to her old office I noticed the looks on Ziva, Tony and McGee’s faces. All three of them had looked like they had just seen a ghost as Jenny walked by. Jethro on the other hand had a look of concern and bewilderment on his face. McGee and Tony called Abby and Ducky to tell them that Jenny had just walked by and to get up to the squad room. Before long Jenny and I were face to face with Leon Vance.
“Jenny; what the, you’re supposed to be...” Vance said.
“Dead, I know. I faked my death.”
“Who is this with you?”
“This is my sister, Jaylyn, Leon. She will be apart of Jethro’s team.”
“No Jenny, she won’t. I’m the Director now, not you.”
“Sorry Leon, but I am the Director and you are the Assistant Director once again. SECNAV’s orders, apparently Davenport knows about your side activity.” Jenny said.
“What side activity?” Vance questioned.
“You’ve been selling our intelligence secrets to our enemies; Vance, don’t play dumb.” I said.
Vance realized that he had been busted and quietly left. Once Vance had left Jenny sat down at her desk, took out the picture of our father and put it on the desk where it belonged. Minutes later Jethro joined us in Jenny’s office.
“Jethro.” Jenny said. I could see my sister’s eyes light up as she said his name.
“Jenny.” Jethro said as his blue eyes met her green eyes.
“There is no need to be so subtle, I can take a hint.” I said closing the door behind me.
As I made my way to the squad room I couldn’t help but think that it wasn’t necessarily a good thing to leave Jethro and Jenny alone in the same room considering their past. I could only imagine what was going on between Jenny and Jethro as I got closer to the squad-room. It was obvious what Tony thought was going on upstairs. Once I got to the squad room I waited with the team. Meanwhile back upstairs things between my sister and Jethro got underway.
“Where have you been?” Jethro asked.
“Well I had my own margarita safari in Mexico for the first six months; stayed with Franks. Then Jay brought me back and we’ve been living in an apartment the last six months because someone decided to burn my house down.” Jenny answered with a mischievous look in her eyes.
“Why did Leon leave?”
“Leon was given his old job back.”
Jethro gave Jenny the Gibbs stare knowing perfectly well that she had pulled some strings to get her job back. In response Jenny stared Jethro down with her stare which always made him cave. Neither one of them said anything for a minute.
“So what’s your next move, Jethro?”
There was a mischievous look in his eyes before he answered.
“This Jen.” Jethro said as he walked over to her, pulled her out of her chair, into his arms and kissed her.
It had been a decade since Jethro and Jenny had shared a kiss like this one. Within minutes Jenny had completely lost herself in the moment. She was quiet content in Jethro’s arms. It was as if the rest of the world had completely disappeared until Jethro’s phone rang.
“Some things never change”. Jenny thought as Jethro pulled away from the embrace to answer his phone. Jenny went back to her desk and waited for Jethro to tell her what the call was about.
“There’s a dead Marine Staff Sergeant at Quantico.” Jethro said as he walked around Jenny’s desk to kiss her on the head.
“Jethro, I’ve waited ten years, an ex-wife and an ex-girlfriend for us to have what we had in Paris; you are going to say good-bye like you did then.”
“Jen, I have to go.”
“The crime scene can wait five minutes; Jethro.”
Jethro knew he wasn’t going to win so he pulled her from her chair once again and pulled her into his arms before he kissed her.
“You always knew how to make me go weak at the knees.”
Jethro smirked before answering.
“What are you doing for lunch today?” Jethro asked as he pulled away from Jenny once again and walked towards the door.
“Jay and I were going to lunch at Palina’s.”
“Oh.” Jethro said before he opened the door.
“There is always dinner and dessert, Jethro.”
“Dinner and dessert it is.”
Jethro left and Jenny returned to her desk. Moments later as Jethro made his way down to us; Jenny made her way to MTAC. For a brief moment as Jethro walked down the stairs and Jenny drew closer to MTAC, they shared a look. Abby, Ziva and I saw the look between my sister and Jethro.
“Finally!!!!” I said.
