Case Closed

“So how is that case of yours, Jethro?” Davenport asked.
“Just about solved sir, I was just briefing the Director when you arrived.”
At that point Jenny was hoping against hope that Davenport had bought Jethro’s explanation.
“Have you ruled out any suspects, Jethro?” Davenport inquired.
“Yes sir, my team and I ruled out the Staff Sergeant’s wife and Commander Andrews.”
“So that leaves Lance Corporal Bellmen.”
“Yes sir, we were on our way to arrest him.” Jethro said.
“Good, I’ll be expecting a briefing Director Shepard.” Davenport said as he got up and left.
Once Davenport left, Jenny let out a sigh of relief.
“I’ll talk to Jaylyn about keeping our relationship quiet. You can talk to the others.” Jenny instructed.
“Will do Jen.” Jethro said as headed towards the door.
“Forgetting something, Jethro?”
Meanwhile I had just arrived for yet another day of work.
“So are you girls doing anything today?” Tony asked.
“Spa day after we arrest Lance Corporal Bellmen.” I answered after I had set my gun in the draw.
Tony’s face lit up once he heard the phrase Spa Day.
“Tony.” Ziva said knowing what Tony was thinking of.
“You got to be kidding.”
Before long I noticed Jenny at the railing in front of MTAC looking down on us. She rolled her eyes as Tony continued to dig himself in deeper. With one look from me Jenny knew we were on the same page.
“Agent Shepard, Director Shepard wants to talk to you.” Jethro said as he came into the squad room.
“Try and say that five times fast. Agent Shepard, Director Shepard.”
“Slap for me Ziva.”
Ziva was hesitant at first, but she slapped Tony as instructed.
“Sorry.”
“You three obviously know that the Director and I had a relationship ten years ago.”
“Yeah, Boss; the entire team knows.” McGee said.
“We also know that you and the Director are back together.” Ziva said.
“That is to stay between myself, the Director and the team. SECNAV cannot find out.”
“Yes Boss.” Tony and McGee said.
“Yes Gibbs.” Ziva replied.
“DiNozzo, McGee go arrest Lance Corporal Bellmen; David grab you stuff. You are leaving for the Spa as soon as the Director and Agent Shepard are finished talking.”
Ziva nodded and grabbed her bag as Abby came up to wait with her. Before long we were at the Spa. We were all getting deep tissue massages as we drank some wine.
“Who’s paying for this?” I asked.
“Jethro paid for it.”
“That was sweet of him.” Ziva said.
“It's about time Gibbs fulfilled his promise. He said he would pay for mine and Kate’s spa five years ago.”
“Well Abs you’re getting it now.”
“And we solved our case.”
“Good job on that. Now I can relax before the Marine Corp mixer.” Jenny said.
“Well there is only thing to do besides enjoying our afternoon off.”
The others knew what I was talking about. We raised our glasses.
“Semper Fi.”

Decisions

Within the next few days Ziva and I were taken off our crutches and put in braces. We still couldn’t move as fast as the others could, but we were getting back to normal as fast as we could. I tried to focus on the case we had been working on but all I was able to focus on was Ethan and whether or not I should move in with him. Both Jenny and Ziva had said that I should but there was something that kept me. I knew that Jenny could take care of herself, she would have a slew of agents to protect her; plus she would spend most of her time outside of the office at Jethro’s.
I was worried because Jenny was still sick. I kept thinking that her illness was going to take her away from me. But I had to realize that Jenny could take care of herself. After all Jenny did take care of me and herself while dad was at work when we were younger. Jethro wasn’t about to risk losing Jenny a second time and neither was Ziva.
So with that I decided to risk it all and move in with Ethan. A few hours later I was officially moved in at Ethan’s. At first it was hard, but it got easier as the hours went on. Ethan unpacked my stuff for me as I sat back with my knee propped up. I could see the smile play across Ethan’s face as he thought of a way to mark our first night living together.
“Get your mind out of the bedroom, Ethan.”
Meanwhile Jenny had called Jethro to her office for a quick discussion.
“Davenport called me this afternoon.”
“Yeah.”
“He wanted to know how your case is going.”
Jethro didn’t say a word.
“What are you thinking about?”
“Paris.”
“Get your mind out of the bedroom, Jethro.”
Jethro just smirked as he remembered the first time Jenny had said that to him four years prior. Memories had been flooding back for both Jenny and Jethro since Jenny’s return. Jenny was bound and determined to make her second chance with Jethro better than the last. Meanwhile at the studio apartment Ethan still had the same thought on his mind from before.
“Jay, you want to go slip into something a little more comfortable?” Ethan asked as her pulled out some lingerie of mine from one of the boxes.
“You are still on that?”
“You’re avoiding the question.”
“So what if I am.” I said as I got up, took the lingerie from Ethan and sauntered off to the bedroom after kissing him like Ziva had kissed Tony when they were undercover as married assassins.
“You are such a tease.”
“I learned from the best.” I said as a devious yet playful look crossed my face.
I could tell that Ethan was a bit concerned about me being on my feet, which drove me crazy.
“What’s on your mind beautiful?”
“You of course.” I said as came back into the room sans lingerie and in my pajamas.
Ethan didn’t say a word, instead he swept me off of my feet and carried me back into the bedroom. To me it seemed like all Ethan and I did was sleep together.
“Want this?” Ethan asked holding up the lingerie once he let me down on the bed.
“What do you think?”
“I’ll take that as a no.”
“Good answer. What are you waiting for? Kiss me already.”
Ethan did as he was told and I was instantly sent into a tail-spin. At first Ethan was being careful. He acted as if I was china doll that would break the minute he touched me. With the look on my face Ethan quickly backed off.
“What did I do? Did I hurt you?”
“No.”
“Then what did I do to piss you off?”
“The same thing everyone else has been doing since I was shot.”
“I didn’t want you to overexert yourself.”
“I get that Ethan and I appreciate everything that you have done. But I’m not a breakable china doll that you have to handle with care.”
“So what do you want me to do then?”
“You know damn well what I want you to do.”
With that Ethan and I were finally on the same page. I had later found out as Ethan slept that Jenny and Jethro had spent the night together in her office. Ducky was in an awkward position when he found Jethro and Jenny on the couch in her office. Jethro had turn sideways during the night which allowed Jenny to lay her head on his chest. Jethro’s arm was around Jenny, he was keeping her close to him as much as he could.
“Ah to be young and in love.” Ducky said as he placed the final autopsy report on Jenny’s desk and left.
As the door closed Jenny woke up. Within minutes Cynthia had buzzed Jenny.
“Yes Cynthia.” Jenny said as she sat down at her desk and buzzed Cynthia back.
“SECNAV is here to see you, ma’am. Do you want me to send him in?”
Jenny panicked for a minute before she answered.
“Give me twenty minutes Cynthia.” Jenny said as she hung up and quickly made her way over to the couch where Jethro still was.
“Jethro wake up, Davenport is here.”
Jethro playfully swatted her, not wanting to wake up. Jenny let out a muffled laugh before she attempted to wake Jethro up again. She knew from the past that Jethro wasn’t the easiest person to wake up.
“Agent Gibbs!!!!” Jenny said.
With that Jethro woke up.
“What did you say Jen?”
“Davenport is here. It has to look like we didn’t spend the night.”
Jethro could sense the urgency in Jenny voice. He also knew that it wouldn’t be good if SECNAV found out that he and Jenny were more than just co-workers. It was one thing for the team to know, it was quite another for SECNAV to know.
Within minutes Jenny was behind her desk as Jethro sat down at the table he sat at three years prior when my sister was avenging our dad’s death. Jenny called Cynthia and told her that it was okay for SECNAV to come in. Jethro could see a mixture fear and panic in Jenny’s green eyes before Davenport joined them.
“Relax Jen.”
“Director Shepard, Agent Gibbs.”
Instantly the fear and panic left Jenny’s eyes as Davenport entered the room.
“Hello sir.” Jenny said as she walked over to greet Davenport.
Both Jethro and I admired how calm Jenny could be in any given situation. As Davenport took a seat Jethro took note of the look that Jenny gave him. The look on Jenny’s face told him everything she wanted to tell him without uttering a word. After the meeting with SECNAV was over Jethro intend to make sure that his relationship with Jenny stayed between them and his team.

Jethro’s Dysfunctional Family

By the time that Ziva and I had hobbled back to the squad room a few minutes later we both noticed that Jethro had left for coffee. Tony and McGee were busy working on the case as Ziva and I got off our crutches.
“Well we know that Mrs. Riley didn’t kill her husband and Commander Andrews didn’t murder the Staff Sergeant.” McGee said.
“That leaves Lance Corporal as a suspect.” Ziva stated.”
“I still think the widow did it.”
“Of course you would.” I said.
“Some things never change.” McGee quipped.
“I know.” Ziva said as a smile played across her face.
“Hey!” Tony responded.
By the time Jethro came back Ziva and I were back on our crutches again. As Jethro walked back to the squad-room he found both Ziva and me on our crutches in front of the plasma next to his desk with McGee, Tony and Abby around us. The five of us had been in an argument for the past six minutes. At first we had been arguing over the case; McGee, Abby, Ziva and I thought that the Lance Corporal had murdered the Staff Sergeant whereas Tony thought that Mrs. Riley had murdered her husband. As Jethro heard us arguing he had the same thought he had six years prior when he watched Tony and Kate argue like teenagers.
“Why do I feel like a high school principal?”
“Try Assistant Principal, Jethro.” Jenny said as she joined us in the squad room.
Once again Jethro attempted to give Jenny the ever so recognizable Gibbs stare which just made Ziva, Abby and me laugh.
“What?” Jethro asked.
“It's nothing, Jethro.”
McGee and Tony were just as puzzled as Jethro was.
“I love how we keep them guessing.” I said.
Jethro grabbed his coat as Tony called Ducky. McGee followed Jethro’s lead and grabbed his coat. Once off the phone Tony picked up his coat and met the rest of us at the elevator. We were going to dinner, all eight of us. Jenny and I had come up with the idea on our way in earlier that morning.
At first Jethro protested, but Jenny convinced him to go along with it. I had always admired the way my sister had with Jethro; both times they were a couple. The dinner we were all going to was a celebration of my 25th birthday. We were going to a quaint café Abby found in Georgetown. Ziva was right before; Jethro and the team were family just as Jenny had been for my entire life. At that point I realized that I had it all.
Once we arrived at the café the men were complete and utter gentlemen. Jethro pulled Jenny’s chair out for her, Tony did the same for Ziva as McGee followed suit with Abby’s chair. Ducky pulled my chair out for me; then he grabbed my crutches and set them against the wall as Tony did the same with Ziva’s. The seating at the table was perfect; Jethro sat in between Jenny and Abby, McGee was on the other side of Abby, Tony sat in between Ziva and me as Ducky sat in between me and Jenny. As I predicted both Jenny and Gibbs ordered bourbon to drink. Ducky ordered scotch; Abby ordered a Red Bull, McGee ordered a rum and coke.
Tony ordered a Bombay Sapphire as Ziva ordered a Corona and I ordered a Mint Mojito. I had a feeling that Tony would order a drink that was somehow related to one of his many movies. It was Tony after all; as we all discussed various things I couldn’t help but noticed that Ziva had changed Tony. Before Tony and Ziva got together, Tony had been movie obsessed and a player. Once Ziva got a hold of him he became a gentleman like Jethro and Ducky.
The dinner was nice, the eight of us together outside of the office with no pressing matters in front of us. One point I looked over to Jethro and saw the ever so allusive Gibbs smirk play across his face as Jenny ran her fingers over his hand. Jenny saw me looking over to her and Jethro, the look in her eyes told me everything I needed to know. A few minutes later I got up from the table to go to the ladies’ room; Ducky grabbed my crutches for me as I balanced on my good leg. Instead of Ziva following me to the bathroom like before Jenny came.
“It's good to see you haven’t lost your touch after all these years.”
“I’ll let that slide since it is your birthday.”
“Thanks for reminding me.”
“What’s wrong? I thought you enjoyed your birthday, Jay.”
“I do; it’s just bittersweet without Dad around and then there’s the whole thing with Ethan.”
“What’s keeping you from moving in with him?”
“You.”
“Really Jay?”
“Why is that so hard to believe Jen?”
“You shouldn’t worry about me. I’m not going anywhere.”
“I know, but you’re the only family I have beside Jethro and the others.”
“Jaylyn; don’t worry about me. I can take care of myself, you should move in with Ethan.” Jenny said as she hugged me in a reassuring manner.
Now came the time when I would have to make a decision about Ethan and me. Later after dinner Jenny went over to Jethro’s as Ethan and I settled in to watch a tv movie. Ziva went home with Tony. McGee and Abby did the same as the rest of us. Ducky went home to the corgis.
Jenny and Jethro went down to Jethro’s basement once they got to his house. Jethro worked on his boat as Jenny perched herself on the chair Jethro had just as she had four years earlier. Before Jethro had started sanding his boat he had set his cell on his work bench next to Jenny. As Jethro sanded the boat his cell phone rang. Jenny picked up Jethro’s phone and looked at the caller id on the front of his phone.
“It’s Ziva.”
“Answer it.”
“Hello.” Jenny said.
“Gibbs.”
“It’s Jenny, Ziva. What do you need?”
“I just called to thank Gibbs for saving me five months ago.”
“You needed to be saved?”
“Pretty much, Director. Back in May I went back to Mossad and Director David put me back in the field. Gibbs, Tony and McGee saved me from being held hostage by a terrorist.”
“Okay, here’s Jethro.”Jenny said as she handed Jethro his phone.
“Gibbs.”
“I just wanted to thank for saving me again.”
“Not a problem Ziva.” Jethro said before he hit the end button on his phone.
Jethro looked over to Jenny once he set his phone down on the work bench.
“What?” Jethro asked.
“Thank-you.”

Protecting His Family.

From the minute we touched down in LA Jethro had been a bit on the tense side. It was hard to tell if he was tense because we were going to a memorial service for a fallen NCIS agent or if he was tense because LA was Vance’s territory and held the memory of when Jenny supposedly died. Minutes later we had arrived at the hotel we were staying at. Jenny and Jethro shared one room. Tony and Ziva shared one other the other rooms.
Abby and McGee took the third room. I took the fourth room as Ducky took the fifth room. I had a surprise waiting for me in my room when I had got there. Ethan had been waiting for me.
“What are you doing here?”
“I was honorably discharged from the Corps. I’m a civilian like you.”
“What was the point in you being deployed?”
“I was wondering that myself.”
“Well if that’s the case then let’s make your homecoming fun.” I said with a playful look in my eyes.
“Don’t we have a memorial service to go to?”
“We have time.”
“Okay, but I don’t think your bosses would approve of it.”
“What Jenny and Jethro don’t know, won’t hurt us. Besides the memorial service for Agent Callen isn’t until four.”
At a quarter after two I had gone down to the hotel bar. Jethro was there with a glass of bourbon in front of him. It was obvious what was on Jethro’s mind.
“It wasn’t your fault that Callen died.” I said as I took the seat next to Jethro.
“I could have been there.”
“You can’t save everyone Jethro.”
A few hours later Jethro, Jenny, Ducky, Tony, Ziva, Abby, McGee, Ethan and I arrived at Callen’s memorial. Halfway into the service we were under fire. The same men that shot Callen the first time had opened fire on us. Jethro’s first concern was Jenny which gave me some comfort. McGee made sure that Abby and Ducky were safe.
I grabbed my gun from its holster as I shoved Ethan to where my sister, Abby and Ducky were. As I joined Jethro, Tony and Ziva in shooting back I noticed that McGee stayed back to guard the others. Within minutes of joining the gunfight both Ziva and I took a round the knee. At that moment Jethro had decided that it wasn’t safe for us to be at the memorial anymore.
“Get the Director, Abby and Ducky out of here; DiNozzo get Jaylyn and Ziva to a hospital now.”
Jenny had decided that it would best for her and Ducky to come to the hospital with Ziva and I. Jenny went into protective sister mode the minute I got into the car. Abby worried about Ziva and I like she always worried when someone on Team Gibbs was injured. Ducky tried his best to keep both Ziva and I from bleeding excessively as Tony sped towards the local hospital. Jenny turned to check on Ziva once Ducky turned to me.
“I’ll be fine Jenny. I’ve been injured worse than this.” Ziva said.
“I’m fine too, nothing surgery and some rehab can’t fix.”
A few hours later both Ziva and I were being wheeled out of the hospital in wheelchairs. Tony was pushing Ziva and Jethro pushed me as our crutches laid on our laps. Once we got to the automatic doors we were helped up and onto our crutches. Jenny had wanted Ziva and me to write up an incident report at OSP so we headed towards OSP. Once we stepped out of the elevator at OSP McGee and Ducky took mine and Ziva’s crutches from us as we were carried down the stairs by Jethro and Tony. At the bottom of the stairs we were given our crutches back and we slowly hobbled over a free desk to write up the incident reports.
Both Jenny and Gibbs wanted Ziva and I to stay off of our injured knees. That was easier said then done for two NCIS Agents that had to keep busy so that we didn’t completely lose our minds. When we were at work; Jethro made sure that both Ziva and I followed orders. Jethro had Ziva and I do desk work while we were at work. Tony would worry about Ziva every time she got up from her chair.
“I’m fine Tony; you can stop hovering over me like I am a child.”
“I can tell that you aren’t fine, Ziva.”
“Like I said before I am not a child that needs to be watched over; I’m your girlfriend.”
There was complete silence in the squad room after Ziva had spoken. Tony was completely dumbfounded. At that point I got up from my desk to go to the bathroom.
“Why are you up Jaylyn?” McGee asked as I balanced long enough on my left leg to grab my crutches.
“I have to go to the bathroom, McGee.”
“Oh.”
“Do you want to babysit me or something?”
“No not at all.”
“Okay.” I said as I made my way to the Ladies’ Room.
A few minutes later Ziva came to the Ladies’ Room too. Apparently Tony had inquired when Ziva got up from her desk like McGee had when I got up before.
“We are being treated like babies.”
“I’m about ready to tell my sister off.”
“I know, but Jenny cares and I’d rather have her here than Vance.”
“Yeah I know; I rather have Jenny as one of my bosses than have Vance too.”
“What’s wrong Jay; you don’t seem like yourself.”
“It’s nothing Ziva.” I said as I made my way over to the sink to wash my hands.
“It is obviously something if you’re this upset about it.”
“Ethan wants me to move in with him now that he is a former Marine.”
“And what did you tell him?”
“I told him that I want to move in with him, but I can’t leave Jenny.” I said as I hobbled away from the sink to the paper towel dispenser so that Ziva could hobble over to wash her hands.
“Let me guess Ethan doesn’t understand why you can’t leave Jenny.”
“Exactly; I just got Jenny back and she is the only family I have since our dad died fourteen years ago. Ethan doesn’t get that every time I heard that Jenny took a round while she and Gibbs were in Paris ten years ago, I thought was going to lose her.”
“He will get it. And you won’t ever lose Jenny; Jay. I won’t let anything happen to her and Gibbs definitely won’t either.”
“Thanks Ziva, I’ll hold you to that.”
“I figured you would. And Jay; you have more than just Jenny as your family. You have Gibbs and the entire team as your family. It can be dysfunctional at its best; but its still family.” Ziva said as we hobbled out of the Ladies’ Room and back to the squad room before men started to worry about us.

The Price of being a Marine's girlfriend

Jethro had decided to let us go home early since we had gotten further in the case. Ethan had picked me up from work and we had gone to his studio apartment in Georgetown. We had decided to stay in instead of going out like we normally did. After Ethan made dinner for me, we had settled in the living room to watch The Graduate. During the previews Ethan decided to drop a bombshell on me.
“Hon; there is something I have to tell you.”
“Yeah, go ahead.” I said as I turned so that I could see Ethan’s face.
“My CO called me into his office this morning.”
“And; what did he say?”
“I have to leave for a tour in Iraq in the morning.”
“So tonight is our last night together.”
“Pretty much.”
“How long will you be gone this time?”
“Not sure, ten months at the most.”
“Well then; let’s make tonight a night that you’ll remember.” I said with a mischievous tone.
The next morning I awoke to the sound of rain hitting the ceiling of Ethan’s apartment. Ethan was gone by the time I got up. Next to me where Ethan had been was a note.
Jaylyn,
I know it isn’t easy being a Marine’s girlfriend, but I love you. You are probably worrying about me right now. Don’t worry I will be safe, I will come home. You are my world; I don’t know what I would do without you. The one thing that always gets me through these tours is the fact that I will be coming home to you.
Be careful at work. Let Agent Gibbs and Agent David protect you. I know that Agent Gibbs will protect you; partially because he is dating your sister, but also because he is a Marine. And I know you will listen to Agent David. I hope your case will be solved quickly. I will write every chance I get.
With all my love,
Ethan
A tear slid down my face and onto the note. I grabbed one of Ethan’s button down shirts and put it on. Minutes later after changing in the bathroom it was time to leave. Before I walked out of the apartment I grabbed my things and the note from Ethan. In the elevator I put the note in my purse and pulled out my phone.
I called Ziva to see if she could pick me up.
“Agent David.” Ziva said when she answered her phone.
“Ziva, it’s me. I need you to pick me up on your way in today. I am at Ethan’s.”
“Can’t Ethan bring you in? I am kind of busy at the moment.”
“No, Ethan can’t bring me in; he just left for a ten month deployment in Iraq. Pull yourself away from Tony.”
“Okay; I’ll be there in five minutes. Are you alright?”
“What do you think Ziva? My boyfriend just left me to serve his country.”
A little while later we were at the office. Ziva and Tony were interrogating Commander Andrews. McGee was with Abby. Once again Jenny and Jethro came out of MTAC. This time they had finished up with a video conference with the NCIS Agent in Bahrain.
“I need a favor, Jethro?” Jenny said as they looked down to me in the squad room.
“Sure Jen.”
“Console Jay like you consoled Abby in the elevator four years ago.”
“What happened?”
“Ethan just left on a ten month deployment to Iraq.”
Jethro did as he was asked. Moments later Jethro joined me in the squad room.
“How did Shannon deal with being a Marine’s wife? How did she deal with saying good-bye every time you were deployed?”
“I don’t know how she did, Jaylyn. She just dealt with it; she had to be strong for herself and for Kelly.”
At this point Jethro had come over to my desk and hugged me just as he had with Abby in the elevator four years earlier.
“I don’t know what I going to do, Jethro. Ethan has only been gone for a few hours and I already miss him.”
“It will get easier, I promise.”
Jethro looked up to Jenny who had been watching from the railing in front of MTAC the entire time. The look of gratitude on Jenny’s face was enough for Jethro. A few minutes later Jethro’s cell rang. While he was on the phone Tony, Ziva and McGee were back at their desks. Jethro didn’t have a good look on his face.
“What is it Boss?”
“I have to talk to the Director.” Gibbs answered Tony as he got up and to the stairs to Jenny’s office.
“What’s wrong, Jethro?” Jenny asked when she noticed Jethro standing in front of her.
“Callen was killed today while he was undercover.”
“How?”
“Gunfight and before you ask the memorial is in LA tomorrow.”
“Are bringing the team or are we going ourselves?”
“Callen was NCIS Jen, the team is coming.”
The next morning we were all on Davenport’s private jet on our way to LA for Callen’s memorial. Jenny, Abby, Ziva and I had decided to change on the plane. Our badges were in their cases with the black strap across the front of them. The guys had been in their memorial attire before we arrived at the airport.
“So how did you know Agent Callen, Gibbs?” Abby asked.
“Callen, Director Shepard and I worked on cases together ten years ago.”
“Oh, Gibbs.”
I sat back and look around the cabin. Jenny and Jethro sat together reminiscing about old times with Callen. Tony was comforting a distraught Ziva who remembered her sister and brother. Abby and McGee just talked to each other. Ducky and I both thought of our better halves.
Dr. Hampton was looking after Ducky’s corgis and his house when she wasn’t filling in for Ducky at NCIS. As I saw the three couples before me; I thought of Ethan. By now Ethan was in Green Zone. Things were going to be different over the next ten months.

Bonding and Romantic Gestures

The next day none of us wanted to go back to work. But when Jenny, Ziva, Abby and I got in that morning we all had a nice surprise waiting for us on our respective desks. Jethro had a vase of orchids delivered to Jenny from a local florist. When Jenny noticed the flowers on her desk she went over to read the card that was attached.
Vous êtes mon monde, mon âme, vous êtes mon vrai amour.
Jenny smiled after she read the card. Jethro knew that she loved it when he spoke French. It reminded her of their time in Paris. When Ziva came in she had found a vase of lilies. The card was in the front.
Vous êtes mon amour et soulmate.
Once Ziva had read the card all her doubts had disappeared. Ziva walked over to Tony after she put the card down and was so close to Tony that he could feel her breath on him.
“Je vous aime, Tony” Ziva said as she leaned into kiss Tony.
McGee had left black roses for Abby. On my desk there was a vase of hibiscus from Ethan. Like Jenny and Ziva’s flowers there was a card with the flowers.
You are the best thing that ever happened to me. I love you with every fiber of my being. To me you mean the world.
Ziva saw the look on my face after I finished reading the card.
“What did Ethan say?” Ziva asked.
“Here read it for yourself."
Ziva came over to my desk and took the card from me to read. A few minutes later Ziva had the same expression I had.
“Sweet isn’t it?”
“Its heartfelt, you got one of the good ones.”
Tony looked up from the file he was reading.
“Besides you.” Ziva said comforting Tony’s bruised psyche.
“So what are you girls up to today?” McGee asked us.
“Well Ziva, Abby and I are having lunch with the Director in a few minutes.”
It was bit weird calling Jenny the Director instead of by her name, but it had to be done.
“Agent Shepard?” the NCIS adman said.
“Yes.”
“You are in violation of the NCIS dress code.”
By this point Jethro was at his desk.
“You got to be kidding.” I responded.
“Sorry ma’am, afraid I’m not.”
“I can wear whatever I damn well please. I’m the Director’s sister and if she or Agent Gibbs have an issue with my attire then I will follow the NCIS dress code.”
“Jaylyn.” Jethro said reeling me in.
The adman left after Jethro spoke. It seemed like the adman feared Jethro. Then again everyone at NCIS knew that Jethro Gibbs was protective of the women he worked with. Abby soon arrived in the squad-room to head up to Jenny’s office with Ziva and me. I grabbed my jacket and slipped the card from my flowers in the pocket to show Jenny.
Cynthia had ordered lunch for us at Jenny’s request. A few seconds before we had walked into Jenny’s office the food with a Caf-Pow for Abby; Jenny had poured some bourbon for Ziva, me and her.
“Bourbon, Director.” Ziva said.
“It’s an acquired taste.”
“So you and Gibbs are back together then?” Abby asked.
“You could say that.”
“Mom and Dad are back together.”
Jenny, Ziva and I laughed at Abby’s quip. The four of us spent the next hour or so eating and talking.
“I see Jethro gave you orchids.”
“He did.”
“What does the card say?”
“He had the florist write; Vous êtes mon monde, mon âme, vous êtes mon vrai amour.”
“Which means?” Abby asked.
“You are my world, my soul, you are my true love.” Ziva answered.
“Awe that was so sweet of Gibbs.”
“Did Tony give you any flowers?”
“He gave me lilies.”
“What does the card say?
“Vous êtes mon amour et soulmate.”
“Tony had the florist write that.” Jenny and I said in unison.
“What is the translation, I don’t know French.” Abby said.
“Tony told Ziva that she is his love and his soulmate.”
“Did you get flowers Jaylyn?” Jenny asked.
“Yeah; Ethan sent a vase of hibiscus flowers.”
“What does the card say?” Abby asked.
“You are the best thing that ever happened to me. I love you with every fiber of my being. To me you mean the world.” I answered.
“That’s sweet.” Jenny said.
“Did you get any flowers, Abby?” I asked.
“McGee had flowers delivered just like Tony, Gibbs and Ethan did.”
“Black Roses, Abby?”
“Of course.”
“McGee?” Jenny, Ziva and I asked a bit puzzled.
“McGee and I dated six years ago.”
“And now you guys are back together.” Ziva said.
“Yeah we are.”
At that point I knew that we would all be okay. And that is all that matter.

A Holiday Break from Work

Thankfully Davenport’s wife had convinced him to give NCIS a day off and to have Army CID take over. So with the day off I decided it was time for Ethan and I to have some fun, it was Valentine’s Day after all. Everyone on Team Gibbs had Valentine’s Day plans. Jethro was taking Jenny out to dinner. Tony and Ziva were staying in at Tony’s for a romantic dinner and a movie.
Ducky was spending the holiday with his flame; Dr. Jordan Hampton. Abby had persuaded McGee to hang out with her at a party she was going to. Jenny and I kept busy between our respective closets trying to find something to wear on our dates and running possible outfits by each other. Jenny was going for the sultry yet conservative look whereas I was going for sultry and pure seduction. I knew that once Jenny became the Director of NCIS again that her fun-loving, carefree self would take a backseat to her responsible, conservative self.
“It’s Valentine’s Day Jen; you’re suppose to be seducing Jethro like you did in Paris and Serbia, not making him guess at what is underneath the clothes.”
“Jethro already knows what is underneath the clothes, Jay.”
“He also knows what is underneath his ex-wives clothes and Colonel Mann’s clothes.”
“I don’t have to worry about Hollis anymore. She’s in Lanai. And Jethro’s ex-wives are happy as long as he continues paying them alimony.” Jenny said as she took a sip of her bourbon.
“Isn’t it a bit early for that?” I said as I came to the doorway of Jenny’s bedroom.
“The sun is down somewhere in the world.”
“Are you going with the sultry seductress or the conservative head of a government agency look?”
“I get where you are coming from Jay; but its one thing for you to go for the dress that says sultry seductress, it’s quite another for me to go with the sultry seductress.”
“Jen; you can pull it off too.”
“It’s better on you because you are younger.”
“Age shouldn’t be a factor.”
“Okay Jay; you win. I’ll where the red dress.”
“Good, I’m going with that pink bodes dress I have in my closet.”
Once Jenny and I had figured out what we were wearing we had no problem with what shoes we were wearing. We had both decided on open-toed stilettos heels. By 7pm Jethro and Ethan were waiting for us. Ethan couldn’t take his eyes off of me which was the exact reaction that I was hoping for. After Ethan and I kissed; I had nestled myself in his arms. Minutes after I had nestled myself into Ethan’s arms Jenny was coming down the stairs. I could see the smile play across Jethro’s face as he saw Jenny come down.
“You’re absolutely gorgeous, Jen.”
“Thank-you, Jethro.” Jenny said slightly blushing.
Jethro took Jenny’s hand; pulled her into him and kissed her passionately. Within minutes we all left the apartment for our dates. Meanwhile Ziva was at Tony’s. Tony was picking out a movie from his DVD collection for them to watch as Ziva made dinner for them.
“How does Casablanca sound?” Tony called from the living room.
“Sounds perfect, come here and taste this.”
Ziva was making pasta and chicken marsala for them.
“It’s perfect.”
“You have some sauce on your cheek. I’ll take care of it.”
With one kiss Ziva had the sauce off of Tony’s cheek. And of course Tony wanted seconds.
“It’s Amore.” Tony said.
“It is Valentine’s Day, Tony.”
“Why don’t we skip the movie and dinner? Let’s have a little fun of own.”
“That is all you ever want to do.”
Tony and Ziva had dinner and then went to have the fun that Tony wanted to have. Afterwards Tony’s curiosity got the better of him.
“So how does it feel to be U.S. citizen?”
“It is one of the best things I could have ever done for myself.”
“What are the other two?”
“You are one of the other two are.”
“How is being on your own, away from Mossad and your father?”
“I told you not to mention Mossad or Director David after we make love.”
“Still a sore subject.”
“It’s not quite fully healed.”
“Oh.”
“Thank-you again for saving me.”
“It was nothing.” Tony said as he kissed Ziva’s forehead.
After their talk Ziva nestled her against Tony’s bare chest just as she had four years ago when they went undercover as the married assassins and fell asleep. By midnight Ethan and I were back at the apartment in my room. We had just had the best evening when I had fallen asleep just like Ziva had. Jethro and Jenny had found their way to Jenny’s room. Jenny had fallen asleep in Jethro’s arms.
Abby and McGee were at the party until 1am. By twenty after one they had make it back to Abby’s apartment and Abby’s coffin. Ducky had embraced his gentleman side and brought Dr. Hampton home around 11pm and was back home before the dogs had ran amok. But in the middle of the night Ziva had woken up. She couldn’t fall back to sleep.
Did I make the right choice? Ziva thought.
Of course I did. Dad never cared for me. Gibbs has been more of a father to me than my own father ever has.
Dad didn’t even bother sending some to save me.
Tony saved me. And NCIS has been my home for the past four years. I never felt safe at Mossad. I was always looking over my shoulder.
I’ve got to stop doubting myself and my choices.
NCIS is my family and Tony is the love of my life. That’s all that matters.
